Students from Allegan High School recorded a documentary about the German World War II prisoner of war camp in Allegan. This is a Picturing Your Community in America program developed by the Michigan Humanities Council in partnership with the National Endowment for the Humanities, and Michigan Television.

  • We actually have a POW camp here in Jackson, MI that is haunted. Some friends and I have been ghost hunting out there and got some great evidence.

  • Nice little project piece. I recall one account by a German POW. He and other prisoners were astonished at how long the train trip to their camp was (days), and further by the fact that their whitewashed barracks had neatly made beds with sheets and packages of toiletries awaiting them! A far cry from the Stalags, as many of them were well aware.

One thing: The narrator needs more practice. Don't fade out your lines, dropping the tone at the end. Keep it clear and crisp!

  • Very nice little piece. I've read quite a bit about german POWs. I think many Americans would be surprised by so many germans in their midst during the war.

  • Excellent!
