http://www.ipsf.com We now have available 3 packages for those starting Nano Lagoons in the 10-gallon size.

Please be sure before adding the NanoStart pack that your tank hardware (tank, filter and light hood) is in place and functioning with a 12/12 light cycle.

Please be sure before adding the Nano Lagoon Grazer Pack that you have waited at least 10-14 days since adding the NanoStart Pack and that your diatom bloom has taken place, as described in our "Big Diatom Bloom" video.

Below is a direct link to our Order Page at ipsf.com. Just fill out the required fields and type the name of the Nano Lagoon Pack you wish to order in the Comments Box on the Order Page.

1) Nano Lagoon Rock Kit. Consists of 5 lbs of course dry aragonite sand. This is used to make a 1/2-inch deep sandbed in your tank, as described in our "Shallow SandBed" video. Also included are 6-7 lbs of aragocrete rock which can be assembled into a reef inside the 10-gallon Nano Lagoon. Introductory Price: $49.95 plus $12. Ships via Priority Mail. Allow 1 week. (We also give instructions to make your own if you wish, in our "How to Make Nano Reef Rock" video.)

3) NanoStart Pack. Add on Day 0 or 1 when the steps above have been completed. The tank has been assembled with rock and sand in place, filter running and Coralline 50/50 lights (total 40 watts) following a 12/12 daily light-dark cycle. This Pack contains: Micro-organisms, beneficial Bacteria, Diatoms, Live Reef Plankton, beneficial Protozoans, and Coralline Booster. Liquid items are added directly to the tank; Coralline Booster is added to the Aquatech 5-15 filter after removing the biomedia cartridge (the blue sponge filter with carbon is left in place). Unpack the styro, allow one hour for the bags to reach room temp, then add contents directly. Introductory Price: $49.95 plus shipping. [Shipped via Fedex at our $29.95 flat rate.]

3) Nano Lagoon Grazer Pack: Add on Day 10-14 or after you are sure a visible diatom bloom has occurred, as evidenced by brownish streaks appearing on the sand, rocks and glass. Contain 6 Strombus Grazers, 6 Tiny Turbos, 20 Reef Amphipods, 6 Mama Mia Worms, 6 Baby BristleWorms and 6 MiniStars. Upack the styro, allow one hour for the bags to reach room temp, then add contents directly. You may put the organisms into a large Tupperware container first for examination. • That's an excellent plan which we fully support! Some rock, sand, corals and beneficial sandbed critters will work just fine. Watch our Nano Lagoon series for ideas on a 10 gallon system using the standard 10-gallon tank, or move up to a so called 20 long, also a great configuration for a reef tank. The 10 gal setup is great to start with though!

  • No doubt! We're hoping folks will make their own rock locally to help cut costs. The livestock packages do get pricey when shipped by Fedex in winter. When the weather gets warmer we'll try shipping the these by priority mail to help bring the cost down.

We're sensitive to the cost issues, esp. because this is a newbie system. On the plus side, all of the organisms do breed in the tank and over time they should become increasingly available locally through clubs, shops, etc.

  • Good thought, thank you. To keep costs down it's imperative to ship the sand/rock kit by priority mail, but to keep the organisms alive they must go by Fedex, at least in cold weather. It's a dilemma right now (in Feb). In warmer weather the organisms may be able to go by priority mail as well, and then we could implement your idea of bundling the items. Mahalo.
