Double Smackdown-February 12, 2007

Marlene Jennings gets double smacked. Once for criticizing appointments recommended by a panel her own party put together and once for criticizing patronage appointments when someone VERY close to Mrs. Jennings received a patronage appointment himself.

To the Liberal comments, I think you're being naive. Del Negro was appointed in 1997, but what guarantee do you have that him or Jennings weren't card-carrying members of the Liberals then?

And while you're all worked up about the "patronage", what about the first part of the argument? Why is Jennings criticizing recommendations HER OWN PARTY made? Does she truly have so little faith in her own party?

Then again, seeing all the Liberal incompetence under Dion, I wouldn't have faith either.

I stand corrected. Harper has made PVL a minister. Who knew? I guess Harper likes having abrasive figures in his cabinet (see also Baird, Flaherty, Nicholson, Ritz).

I will make a prediction: Peter Van Loan will never be a cabinet minister. He does Harper's dirty work with a smile.

Peter Van Loan is my MP and I'm afraid to say he is one of the worst poiticians in Canadian history.

Once a development lawyer, he now espouses the virtues of environmental protection.

He resorts to rhetoric rather than answering questions.

In short, every negative stereotype attached to politicians is representted in Van Loan. Even the Globe and Mail declared him to have "done more to poison the current Parliament than anyone else".

It's always interesting to see that there are conservative fascists in Canada (the commentators below me). I wish more America's realized this - that Canada has a great big useless fly-over country like we do. I'm glad I live on the West Coast, where most of us realize that calling black people "monkeys" is about as racist as you can possibly get.

Mr. del Negro wasn't appointed in 2005, he was re-appointed. He was on the immigration board before Jennings was elected to Parliament for the first time in 1997

Don't let the truth get in the way of your opinions.
