This was Descent II, the sequel to Descent. It has been developed by Parallax Software and published by Interplay in 1996. In this video you can see the interactive demo version.

Don't laugh ... the last time I had played this game was about 8 years ago. I had some trouble finding the exit and the guide bot always disappeared when I need it ...

  • This game was a classic, an awesomely fun game to play in its day. And it made for some great online multiplayer gaming, too.

  • I remember when this game was new. My PC had an 88Mhz CPU, 16Mb RAM and a 2Gb Hard Drive and played it quite nicely. Just couldn't do the higher screen resolutions :P

It was cutting edge, and even supported 3D. The AI was so damn clever. The CD music added a generous dose of adrenaline too.

  • Best First Person Shooter ever? Who'd have thought that making a shooter permanently in spectator mode would be the greatest 3D achievement (right next to Super Mario 64) in gaming? Ingenious.

  • lol I still have the cd case for this game I remember playing with a joystick this and mechwarrior 2 on windows 95

  • Anyone know of an online descent 2 multiplayer server? if one doesn't exist, i'll set one up on a static IP.. i know the new(haha) descent2 supports UDP play and i can't wait to try it out!!

The music in this video sounds like the original MIDI. Depending on what sound card/setup you're using, how MIDI music sounds can vary quite a bit. I remember using a Soundblaster 16 and it sounded pretty much like this when using the MIDI (there was also a CD soundtrack you could play with that had different music).

  • Hey can you explain me please how did you get this awesome music on the background? It sounds MUCH better than the original midi. Thanks a lot :)

  • Why use DOSBOX ?

    DOSBOX SUCK ASS !

    Use DX and DX2-REBIRTH.

It's the best way to play these games ! HIGH RESOLUTION 200FPS +

  • Photo finish right at the end of the first mission, there...
