Earlier encounters with Phobos have resulted in some of the highest resolution images available of that moon, and last month Mars Express and Phobos lined up again for another fly-by. But this time, the orbiter was in just the right place -- at just the right time -- to capture something else in the picture:

That's Jupiter in the background -- actually, 529 million km in the background (or about 3.5 times the distance from the Earth to the Sun). Phobos was much closer, at just over 11,000 km (over 7,000 miles) away.
