Well Teddie and Hobie, The original of Cindy Oh Cindy was done by Eddie Fisher. And AFAIC is one of FIsher's better performances. Search around a bit I;m sure you'll find it here on Youtube.

But, all that being said Waylon does a good job on this in his own way. It speaks better to me of a sailor really missing his girl. Maybe it's just the gravel in Waylon's voice.
