  • Somehow, even though the audio is so degraded, it's still completely perfect.

  • The reason Bach's music is so universal is because you can't change the spirit and the soul behind these pieces.

  • Gould seems (rightly so) fascinated with the music. It is as if learning to playing it was completely secondary to the joy of listening to it

  • Scientists of the world, hurry up and create a machine that brings back people from the dead. i would bring back bach, he deserves it.

  • @jayliew1 That's because this music is mainly formal. It's not scored for instruments as such. And the Art of Fugue wasn't scored for anything in particular. The concern is just with the voices and the relations they have with one another.

  • This is played on a harpischord but the mechanism is into the piano thats why the diferent sound of a piano. Glenn explains this invention as Harpiano.

  • L'esprit de vérité, tout simplement

  • What other people said, with some qualifications. That is a very interesting sound, a "dance" quality I have never heard before in a Glenn Gould recording (not that I have heard them all!). I think there is more to the difference here than the piano itself - it seems like a different interpretation of the music than I remember from other recordings of his. This is glorious. Cool, and doublepluslike.

  • @jayliew1 And at almost every tempo. Noone came closer to absolute music than Bach.

  • Reincarnation is a fact, Bach Reincarnated in Gould

  • I really cannot understand why someone would upload something of that kind of monumental artistic value at 240p Resolution. This is an upload of a very old black-&-white film studio performance, which is ALREADY compromised and slightly damaged & deteriorated, due to time, & the fragile nature of the physical medium used. Then? Why on EARTH would you upload something with already such poor sound-quality, & thereby COMPROMISE the sound even FURTHER, by uploading it with such poor resolution?
