Thanks PiccoloCube for letting me use your video!

I came across many links to that video comparing the original Metroid Prime to its updated edition in the Trilogy. Apperantly some effects were removed on the Wii update. I decided to turn the linear video into a direct side-by-side comparison of both games. The original video has more footage than what I used, so make sure to check it out!

The Trilogy enhances old games by using the new engine from MP3, so there are graphical differences between the games. Dynamic water was removed from the trilogy's edition of Metroid Prime for some reason, as well as the ice beam freezing walls. But nothing else seemed to have changed.

The flickering in the video was probably a syncing issue with both videos. Sorry about that, I'm not sure how to prevent it.

  • Corruption introduced a far more immersive and competant aiming facility but the wiimote doesn't have the buttons to give you that same feel of switching between weapons and visors with one deft movement of your thumb.

  • @jennaofthecuckooclan It's a very small tradeoff for a grand aiming scheme. Before the Wii was even a year old, Nintendo perfected FPS controls. Now that it's 4+ years old, there are hardly any good FPSs on it :(

  • I thought MP3 was so awesome, specifically for the controls. it was the ideal game for motion controls, being that it was a First person shooter. It gave you that feel of virtual reality. I did not like it though because it didn't have the "aurora" of feeling the first one had, being lost on a distant planet and having that feeling of awe (the music helped that a lot too.) It was neat how they used the ship in #3, but I would have rather been stranded on one planet throughout the entire game.

  • @tmsvividvideo8010 I never played the original Metroid Prime, but I liked the concept of using the ship to go from place to place and planet to planet. It would be interesting if the entire game took place on one planet, but the way it works right now is amazing. There is definitely a sense of history and loneliness throughout Metroid Prime 3, and I feel it was pulled off incredibly well.

  • If you look at the Wave Beam, the electricity doesn't course through when charging, the Ice Beam doesn't freeze over when charging, the Plasma Beam doesn't have sparks that float into the beam when charging, and that's just a few of them.

  • @HuskyVerbatim Yes.

  • GCN version's environment looks as if it's deeper and the exposure of the shots hitting the wall don't create that unwanted polygon effect.

  • It's kinda sad. The effects let you feel awesome and powerful and now they're gone in favor of motion control (which I dislike, because I'm used to the old one).

Feels kinda lazy, since they took the time to eliminate fun exploits instead of fixing the effects.

  • @Metroid225

You know...Epic Games and Retro BOTH used Maya...maybe that's it.

  • i like the game cube one through

  • @Metroid225 Yeah, sure. Add me on Steam: zero_one101

  • @ZeroOneCentaurion Btw, if you'd like, we can discuss this over MSN, Steam, etc. :)

  • @ZeroOneCentaurion Cooking existed waaaay back in Unreal Engine 2 as a feature for consoles. It enabled fast loading. It wasn't on PCs because they withheld the subsystem for some odd reason (probably because they actually wanted it privatized to protect against people making their own console games).

They actually did use Unreal Engine 2 because that's when they actually featured FluidSurfaces. You'll notice these on Tallon's Landing Site.

  • @Metroid225 Ok, cooking does exist in UT3. However, at the time of development, IF they used Unreal, they'd be using most likely 1.5 or maybe 2. So you'd have to prove that things were 'cooked' back then. And even then, I *still* wouldn't believe you.

  • @ZeroOneCentaurion Look at Asset_CMDL_EditorModel in the Property View window (which is standard in UnrealEd (the Property View window that is)). Look at the text box next to it.

    "Parasite_Queen/cooked/intro_boss_"

Notice the word "cooked" in there. "Cooking" is a term used in the Unreal Engine, described as compiling all the levels, maps, UScripts, etc. into one distribution. Look up "unreal engine cook" on Google, Epic Games covers this.

  • @Metroid225 That really doesn't look anywhere near Unreal. I mean, there is a slight similarity but nothing you could identify as being Unreal.
