Blast off with Buzz Aldrin in this exciting and unique strategy game from Interplay and Strategic Visions, 1993/1994. Take total command of either the American or Soviet space program. Research and construct rockets, capsules, and satellites, recruit astronauts and cosmonauts, and launch missions across the solar system. Your goal: be the first to land on the moon and return safely!

With five capsule systems per side (one man, two man, three man, four man direct ascent, and minishuttle), this game offered a tremendous variety of gameplay options and paths to achieve your ultimate goal. Besides historical paths, it also features some missions that were explored but ultimately decided against, including joint lunar missions, direct ascent, and the reusable mini-shuttle, as well as hypothetical super-heavy rockets like the Nova and Vulkon, and the manned orbital lab. Apollo 11 astronaut and the second man to walk on the moon, Buzz Aldrin, also contributed as a consultant, as well as allowing his name and likeness to be used for the game.

This turn-based strategy game was originally released on floppy disk. This playthrough features the later compact-disc release, including voice acting, many more videos, and some additional gameplay tweaks.

  • why do u mark the red thingie when scheduling the mission?

  • @Wizardmon2

It's a lock. When you have the setting you want selected (manned/unmanned, docking or not, EVA or not, etc.) and then you click the red button to lock that selection, when you click the up or down arrow to scroll through missions it only shows the missions that fit that criteria.

  • the most difficult video game i ever played! >w<

You would think a game named after an astronaut wouldn't have so many ways for them to die horribly.

  • In my game, I barely began with the Mercury and Vostok manned flights (because the only way to have a shot at moon landing before the other part is playing human-vs-human, the AI kicks your butt every time), and I've already lost Gordo Cooper and Andriyan Nikolayev... and I just hate when you get the funeral scene! Even playing against yourself, getting on the moon before 1970 is hard!

  • Man, I got the freeware version today... hardest game I've ever played. I started out destroying the soviets, first satellite, first manned mission, a bunch of planet flybys, but then they just went all out on the lunar missions and won.

  • I want to play as soviet russia and beat America to the chase then destroy them with bombs!....can I do that?

  • Such a great and hard game.

  • such a great game

  • I stumbled across this game yesterday and I just can't stop playing. I finished yesterday at 1:30 am which made me soo tired in work. Great video!

  • @L1011Widebody and that's why i love this game is SO challenging!

  • @L1011Widebody in a mission the kvartet spacecraft landed wrong and the cosmonauts bodies were at the moon surface with the kvartet broken up in two parts!, worst mission failure i had

  • @L1011Widebody thank for answering!
