Use the same. "Toning" doesn't really exist as far as exercise/rep-range goes, it's just a buzzword misused by the industry... "tone" is just another word for definition, which is created through lowering body fat. Lowering fat is a matter of creating a caloric deficit rather than specific exercises/reps. "Bodybuilder physique" as you put it is just the same thing but with more muscle mass (which takes years of dedicated lifting, you need not worry).

@premium1823 "Bulky" muscles are not slow. That is a myth. Olympic lifters are some of the quickest athletes in the world.

@BodyPerformanceTV Would it be ok when lifting heavy to do 3 sets of 5?
-
The question I have is, how many reps and at what weigh in order to TONE muscle, not so much to build it. I don't want the typical body builder physique with massive legs and arms and chest.

Awesome info! This video is over 5 years old but it still very useful... well time to hit the gym! Thanks!!

How about 6 sets of 3 with near perfect form on all exercises after a light 10 rep warm up?

Steve - I generally workout in 3 cycles. I do heavy (4 - 6 reps), medium 8 - 12 reps), and light (20 - 30 reps) I do this for whatever part of my body Im working. So ill do lifght back 1 week, medium back week 2, heavy back week 3, then start over again. Ill try and incorroprate different exercises as well. Your video seems to suggest im wasting my time doing this. Just want your opinion

@ConspiracyDebunked I would skip the 20-30 rep weeks. We want to train hard but after 20 and 30 reps the internsity is not enough to build big strength and larger muscles, especially at your level.

@BodyPerformanceTV iam into martial arts. i was told if i do many reps with say a pyramid system for lets say punches. the many reps would create a muscle memory, so i would be able to create more power after continuous practice. your thoughts please.

@premium1823 Practicing your martial are will give you muscle memory. Weight lifting will only build strength. It's like saying lifting weights will help me with my free throws. It will give you more stregnth to use but you still have to gain that muscle memory through practice.
