Hello to everyone!

Welcome back to Project Bluestar. On this transmission we head to the capital of Australia - Canberra. The Aboriginals of this region were known as Ngunnawal and they called the region Kamberra meaning 'meeting place. It's not all that surprising then that this is where many governmental decisions get made today that effect the future of so many people. But that doesn't mean the region holds the greatest minds. On this occasion, I'll be attending the annual Science Week committee meeting which involves a host of people from around Australia to discuss the role of science in society and develop initiatives to help make science more appealing & engaging. What's interesting, is that there are a lot of people out there who feel detached from science because of the image it can portray as being strict and cold, regimented & fixed.

So what is it about science that makes some people curious with wonder and others feel like a bucket of dry biscuits. Some of the greatest achievements in science have been made by individuals who came from outside the normal ranks of established ideas, and after all, the way we see the world is all an idea.

History tells us that established & popular thought will one day be scrutinized and changed to suit new and better ways of doing things. So what's the lesson? The more we can keep an open mind on life's little mysteries the better off we'll all be in avoiding dispute & conflict due to the rigid realms of popular thought & dogmatic attitudes.

Science to me is about curiosity and expression & the art of invention. We learn about ourselves & the world when we reach out and explore new realms. The idea that we can effect our future by inventing new ways of doing things propels many of us to live and enjoy the fruits of our capabilities. Whatever the case, we are all part of the evolutionary process, new ideas come from everyone and we all play a role in shaping our common future. The changes we see today in science & even that of religion comes from the collective human drive to go beyond the dense human traits of material excess and separation. If we all want to live better, then new ways of thinking and living will need to be adopted to see human health and happiness improve.

The truth is, science belongs to everyone. Just as the future belongs to everyone. We need to look at ourselves in the mirror and see that we all share the same needs and wants, so lets spread the love a little.

Stay tuned for the next Project Bluestar Adventure as parliament house emerges from out of the fog and consideration is given as to whether politics suffers the same challenges as the scientific realm, and that is, the need to become more relevant.

Keep smiling groovers & catch you soon.

Tom :)

  • Thank you kindly. We are certainly aware of the Zeitgeist Movement, it looks like they're enjoying themselves. As for Joey, he's been touring the outback working with indigenous communities & making great things happen. You'll no doubt see him on a coming episode of GF. Cheers & take vare. :)

  • As always, thank you guys! You do wonderful work and are very inspiring. I was wondering if the GF gang is familiar with the Zeitgeist Movement headed up by Peter Joseph?

p.s. we need an update on Joey !
