For instance, I was taught that Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon from golden plates. When I looked at unbiased information, I found out that Joseph Smith put a rock in a hat and claimed that words and letters appeared.

We all know why they don't want members (and potential members) of the church to know ALL the facts. Because it sounds stupid and completely unbelievable.

Mr. Millett, I file this under deceiving and underhanded, a area of which Mormons know well, I watched Romney say the oddest thing about his church was a bout a boat full of animals or something of the like. NOT TRUE, Mr Millett the REAL QUestion that SHOULD be ASKED is was Joseph a real TRUE Prophet NO, yet he is a REAL false prophet, the real Question was he a money digger, adulterer, deceiver, YES, YES, YES even Mormons will agree to this if honesty is a GOVERNING VALUE.

I dont see anything wrong with teaching basics first, you learn basic math before algebra and algebra before calculus and so on. Same thing with beliefs of someones culture or religion,

The bible teaches that a man was swallowed by a giant fish, lived in it's belly for a few days and then got spit out onto dry ground alive and well. You believe that, but have a hard time believing someone could see words appear? People like you make it harder for reasonable people to have faith.
