Faith/Activism organized its first weekend retreat on October 20-21, 2007 at Sturtevant's Camp in the San Gabriel Mountains.
"Sustaining Self, Sustaining the World" is an approach to our faith and spirituality in the setting of nature and community. Going 4 miles deep into the San Gabriel Mountains is an opportunity to find some quiet space to practice the discipline of silence, reflection, meditation, and contemplative prayer.
Over 25 people participated in the weekend retreat and enjoyed the time in meaningful conversations, good vegetarian meals, and storytelling.
The weekend was not overwhelmed with workshops and various team-building exercises. This was a spiritual retreat that took seriously the sustainability of our Christian faith in justice work. We listened to the experience of three social activists and their candid and raw representation of how their faith interplays with their work.
