I would love to learn how to play this game and be a dungeon master but the hand books seem like a lot to take in. Is there anyway to learn the basics and start a simple play group? Like start off small.

the best way is to find someone who knows how to play to teach you. The rulebooks are tough to comprehend... id say if you want to start off small, dont attempt to follow ALL of the rules. Use the basics... read the sample section of a game in the PH to get an idea

how is 4th compared to 3rd? i never thought anything was wrong with 3rd, 4th just feels like a way for Wizards to sell more rulebooks

I got to ask man despite the risk of sounding like a freak or loser. Where did you get that Wizard outfit that's pretty cool actually. That and I'm looking for some good wizard props or gear to add to the role playing experience in my group and I generally role a caster. So if you could let me know or if anyone watching this could respond great. Anyway this was a fun and actually insightful film that I thought was creative and informative in teaching some people D&D without being too textbook.

An I was one of said f"uckiing nerds" who went to school with a bunch of jocks and religious loonies. Geuss how many of the jocks live in trailer parks today. Geuss how many of loonies are in jail. Geuss how many D&Ders I used to know make six-figure salaries.

@simonedday 1st and 2nd edition? not really. your DM might be more mysterious and the rules less known. but that depends.

Yeah if you have a friendly group you will pick it up in a game or two, and then start asking the GM about how to be a dungeon master etc and then take in the book.
