MY FAVORITE SONG BY RUSH AND ITS COVERED BY MY FAVORITE BAND!!
-
You're missing the point. My 2 favorite bands are Yes and Genesis. I also played in tribute bands for both, so I know about odd time signatures. It's all down to taste, so I'm not here to insult your taste. What I am saying is that if you take PT, they rely more on melodic structure and feel w/ odd time thrown in. The melody isn't compromised whereas in DT LeBrie live is constantly off key and struggling and the music is near robotic at times. Different tastes is all.
-
@stevedrums ...True........Playing a bunch of notes cause they can is no different then P. Tree, Spocks Beard, Rush and so on playing odd time signatures just cause they can............I guess it works for what the are doing whether it's fast slow, off time or whatever.................if thats the case, jazz should be dead w/all the playing that goes on!

@mikeybbdrummin Some bands do Rush justice, so I mistakenly thought that they might. I have listened to them, obviously otherwise how else would I be able to opine about them? Look, they've been very successful in what they do. However, I just happen to believe that they don't say very much. Playing a million notes for the sake of doing it, doesn't say anything. You can disagree. It's a free country.

@stevedrums ..You came to a vid of a band you don't even like to talk crap about them??...no, that's not 16 year old behavior...Portnoy's style has not changed much over the years.but he still has a style that's been copied for years now....yes they love their progressive over the top playing....How would you know about what DT doesnt have if you don't listen to them.. and Studio drummers aren't legends because of originality.....its cause they have great feel and time.....Originality comes last
-
@mikeybbdrummin Whether I can carry his "bag" isn't the issue at all, so leats leave the 16 year old high school mentality off to the side, shall we? Having chops doesn't make one a legend. Originality does. There is absolutely nothing original about Portnoy's playing. Not one iota. Mangini - whom I didn't even mention - is a unique talent. The difference between the "math rock" they play compared to bands like Porcupine Tree is that PT has feel and melody. DT has none of that.
-
@stevedrums ............These guys are huge Rush fans and do quite well...................And ruin their own songs??......................Y
ou Stevedrums, are not capable of carrying Portnoys stick bag...........or even Looking at Manginis stick bag for that matter!....Just about everyone has played tuvers/or in cover bands................and if you have you know you did not play every song NOTE for NOTE...........Oh yea, what did you come here for? -
Can't they just concentrate on ruining their own songs and leave other people's songs alone?
-
