I think that the father is the milkman who went to the house to see the mother ;) and got got the little brother out the way by asking him to do his round. The priest sees the father going to the house and knows he will be killed if he's found by the boyfriend so goes to warn the mother and father, because the father has the red hair of his sons he pretends to be Billy "he didn't see his brother but there was his mother with the red headed head in her hands".
