VW diesel smoke and run

1983 VW Jetta 1.6 Turbo diesel just bought it.
Heres the mods ive done, Air filter, straight pipe, Turned fuel up both ways ( theres 2 ways to do it )

what did you do to it to make it smoke?

@5354TK I turned the max fuel screw in, but you will have to turn down the idle if you do that. And i grinded the LDA pin

Was it a factory trubo? i want to put a turbo on a vw rabbit diesel from '83 but dont know if itll work, also what engine ltr is it?

@domiNATEshots12 It is Factory Turbo Garret T/3 , Its engine code CY they are pretty rare.
