Maria is incredible. I had the pleasure of singing in the chorus behind her for a few shows at Glimmerglass and her voice is astonishing

Some comments here have insinuated that Maria Kanyova is a "bad soprano" - I can assure you that she is an exceptional soprano and a very generous artist - a true professional. Judging a singer by one small clip is ridiculous.

You are quite wrong. Gretel is one of the most demanding roles a soprano can sing, and the music throughout the opera is very difficult. But I agree this production is a dog's dinner. For a very different take, have a look at the Bel Canto Opera production, posted by me on Youtube.
