When researching and finding the family for a recent Heritage Tour client with roots in Isola del Liri (Province of Frosinone), we discovered this neat local saying!
It's in dialect... and speaks about why "You shouldn't go to Capitino" - A local rural neighborhood that overlooks the beautiful city of Isola del Liri (in fact, the photo here was taken from Captino!)
It goes (and excuse my "ciociaro!");
"A Capitino, Nun ci puossa Capita'"
Loosely translated - it's better not to find yourself in Capitino!
The meaning is disputed, we found out... some think it's because it used to be common knowledge that, if you went to Capitino, you were bound to get married. Others believed that it comes from when, under French rule, the guillotine that was used to decapitate local criminals was located at Capitino.
It's fun in either case... but if you have roots in Capitino or Isola del Liri, why now come and visit the city and meet your long-lost family with the help of italyMONDO!?
