what I like about the video is how he was able to capture the noise of the sea. In most of these videos all you hear is the wind on the microphone. Great vid!

Beaufort Scale Force 8:
Moderately high waves with breaking crests forming spindrift. Streaks of foam.

secondo me il mare non era forza otto. I'm not sure that this sea is force 8

Great video quality. I am surprised the helmsman is not clipped on. With mounting seas, a MOB would be difficult to spot especially as it would take precious minutes to turn the yacht around and difficult if the crew on board have limited heavy weather experience.

I read your comment and thought you must be wrong - but it certainly appears that you are right: I wasn't clipped on. Shame on me!

Is a boat like this built for thes kind of conditions or is it better to stay away from them?

@JustWonderingHowToDo
It's always better to avoid them - it isn't a pleasent environment to be in!
The biggest risk would be losing your mast which is why you run before the wind on a "broad reach" such that the wind is almost directly behind you. I wasn't worried about the boat at all, ripping sails and falling overboard are bigger dangers.

sure this was a force eight........?????

@Northdiver
Yes, absolutely. We were running before the wind which makes it a whole lot less frantic. Scary when we were pushed/blown side on - then you were reminded of just how windy it was. We were well out to sea, so the waves were big "rollers" rather than being choppy. A force 8 in the English Channel (for example) is lot rougher!
