This video was discarded as trash by a neighbor. I pick it up and played it in my VCR and was amazed to the treasure it represents to us. Then I searched for information about the interpreter. Today I share it with you as part of our heritage. Not knowing the title I called it CONCERTO #2.

According to my friend Peter from Holland, this is known as ASTURIAS by Isaac Albeniz. Other people know this as LEYENDAS.

Andres Segovia was born on February 18, 1894 in the Andalusia city of Linares. He spent most of his life in Granada. His father wanted his son to be a lawyer, but, Andres was more interested in the love of his life, the Andalusia guitar. Yet he departed from the other famous Andalusia and Flamenco guitarist style and developed his own unique style that made him famous. He took many of the classical melodies and transformed them into a subtle murmur of his talented fingers and the strong vibrations of the Andalusia people. Is a mixture of the old and the new developed into a magical performance of strings and melodies. He disregarded the critics, especially at his teachers at the Granada Musical Institute where he studied the classics. He persisted in playing the guitar his own way. He died of a heart failure June 2, 1987 in Madrid, Spain. That day the world lost a genius.

  • @latinosomos wrong. this is called LEYENDA. same author. at least you got that part right.

  • @Haplotype0 You may be right. When I went to Spain, last year, I heard EL NINO MIGUEL play this in a restaurant. I was going to ask him, but, I changed my mind because he looked like he was drunk

  • I'm glad you realized its importance. I saw him in concert in Chicago in the early 70's. And, we had front row seats, right in front of him. I was spellbound! Thank you for not only posting this but for adding story and bio to the video. I'm, sure, he's smiling down at you!

  • Beautiful M3

  • When I was a kid a friend's grandmother said, "Listen to Los Índios Tabajaras and Andres Segovia" and gave me some vinyl albums and told me to return them. I did and thanked her. I stopped playing bass and focused on guitar. Imagine... wanting to be an old man at such a young age. Thanks for posting and hey... let me know if you move; I could use a few more good neighbors :)

  • Nobody plays as segovia

  • Thank you for posting this!

  • if only they used a good microphone so you could hear the impressive dynamics of the room!
