No, it's two different stories. - 1. Before the "party" you can see that Schober gives the money to Magdalena, because he wants her to make the lonely Schubert feel happy. When she sees however that Schubert begins loving her, she repents her attitude. Thus she wants to give back the money to Schober. - 2. The confusion with Schober's and Schubert's real identity begins just at the beginning of the "party" with the two old women, one really thinks that Schober is Schubert.

I can answer this to you: 1. The scene where Schubert is playing the piano and a friend singing outside is a typical scene of that era, also the fireworks. So were the public "parties". 2. There was indeed a confusion, because Schober was given Schubert's identity, but only because Schubert took part and accepted. 3. Schober gave the money to the woman, so that she made Schubert believe that she was interested in him and that Schubert became happy, which Schober wished.

Da kann ich nur zustimmen. Habe den Film damals auch gesehen und bis heute wirkt er nach. Er hat mich damals als Jugendliche sehr beeindruckt. Udo Samel ist ein großartiger Schauspieler.

My German is very poor. Could anyone explain the scene where Schubert plays piano while that man sings lieder outdoors; then the fireworks after. I am under the impression that most of those people thought Schubert was Schober and vice versa (mistaken identity). What is the problem with the money Schober gives that woman? What is she saying when she shows Schubert the money under the tree? I'm very confused about this scene.

Ich glaub, der Lehnert hat sich mehr bei dem Film gedacht, als die meisten glauben. Und nicht nur der Schubert, auch der Strauss Johann ist gut beobachtet. Ich liebe den Film!

Dieser Schauspieler heisst Udo Samel - in der Tat ein hervorragender Charakterdarsteller, der in einem späteren Dokumentarfilm, der die "Wende" von 1989 beinhaltet, auch Gorbatschow gespielt hat. Dieser dreiteilige Fernsehfilm wurde in der Mitte der Achtzigerjahre unter dem Titel "Mit meinen heissen Tränen" hergestellt. Leider ist er nicht vollständig erhältlich, ich habe schon alles Mögliche versucht.
