GMC RTS-04 #1191 (ex-Jamaica Buses, Inc./ex-Triboro Coach Corporation) was on the Q47 leaving 74th St Terminal and traveling along Broadway in Jackson Heights and was heading towards LaGuardia Airport in East Elmhurst, Queens.

This bus I wanted because the rest of the GMCs were retiring rather quickly. I will miss those buses with there DDEC6v92TA engines. This bus was Jamaica Bus GMC RTS-04 #530 and before that it was Triboro Coach GMC RTS-04 #641.

NOTE: ALL GMC RTS-04 and GMC RTS-06 buses have been retired. Actually, they've been retired for a few months now...since I think around June (2007) or so.

  • Will RTS 1162 be used as a rodeo bus?

  • Nope as that bus is at Eastchester Storage awaiting SCRAP! Sorry.

  • The Gilligs at Los Angeles MTA are "hand-me-downs" from another company such as Foothill Transit. What I mean about large companies is this...SamTrans has how many buses in their fleet? New York City Transit has about 4500 buses. That's a larger company then SamTrans. Suffolk Transit in Suffolk County, Long Island (where I live) has about 125 or so Gilligs...that's a smaller company.

  • the NYC buses should use Gilligs

  • Gillig does not make buses for LARGE cities...only smaller markets.

  • Which bus company was this bus delivered to originally, and what was its original fleet #?

  • GMC RTS-04 #1191 was ex-Triboro Coach GMC RTS-04 #641.

  • @TheTransitMan123 Actually they could they just don't won't to take that risk. A screw up of an order of Gillig buses could result in a similar situation that took place with Flxible. And then looking at what happened to Neoplan USA, I don't think Gillig will be building buses for the MTA any time soon. I don't know about NJT or SEPTA, but I can assume the same thing. Although SEPTA did order 1092 Neoplan AN440s though. Only time will tell I guess. Good catch by the way.

  • @ttcgeek Nope!!!! u would never hear dat, due to the b400 tranny!!! it wont fit, dats why they introduced the V-drive tranny from allison for the RTS!!!! i would be cool to hear it tho

  • @MrSubwayTrainMan Actually there are currently no GMC RTS buses left in service and if this was still running it will only see MTA BUS EX-PBL lines and B49 was originally MTA NYCT..

  • WASH IT

  • Why do I never see a bus like this on the B49

  • @TheTransitMan123 Just like them ugly Gillig Low Floors are definetly not good buses for big cities, Thats why Seattle doesn't have them.

  • my opinion they solud have keep that green line/red line look to tha buses and just re paint them under the mta i kida make them as if there where never there I miss the Green REd line buses (JFK Depot ,Guy R Bewer* Depot)
