Soyuz, the long-serving Russian launch vehicle, will soon also be launched from Europes Spaceport in French Guiana.
A new launch pad is being built at the spaceport in South America and, in parallel, the elements of the Soyuz that will be launched from the Guiana Space Centre (Centre Spatial Guyanais CSG) are being prepared in Russia. This film shows the Samara Space Centre, one thousand kilometres southeast of Moscow, and how Soyuz launchers are built. With more than 1600 Soyuz family launches, carrying payloads that included the first Sputnik and the first man in space, a huge amount of experience is applied to this task.
This film also shows how the first two Soyuz launchers are being tested in Samara, ready for their flight from French Guiana.
