I've been meaning to put some beyond on here for ages...

Scanned the images from an edition of their fanzine "Onion" circa 1992. It's a wee comic strip following the wacky antics of the band, featuring dubious refernces to middle-eastern plutonium suppliers. I wonder if they'd have included that nowadays? Anyway I thought it might be of interest. The track is Cypress Era, the first track from thier final album "Chasm".

For the uninitiated here's what BNR Metal Pages had to say about the band: "The Beyond was a curious group, with a style that vaguely resembled progressive thrash but was neither progressive nor thrashy in the traditional sense of those terms. They were quite a unique band, and while Chasm was the more mature of their two releases, the preference here is for the raw frenzy of Crawl, truly a great album. After the two albums they changed name to Gorilla (possibly to signal a directional shift), under which a couple of obscure EPs were recorded before they finally disbanded".

  • wow! i've never heard this song before. i have a feeling there was a follow up to "crawl" that was never released??? i wonder if this is from it???

yeah "crawl" is one of my all time favourite albums. seems insane that pretty much no ones heard of this band. and they were on emi! maybe it was one of those dodgy tax write off record deals? or maybe it was their own fault for wearing tye-dyed shirts?

  • Fuzzpilots, Chasm was the follow up LP to Crawl, came out 91-92 I think. A lot of folk have "issues" about it's production but imho there's not much to moan about. The songs are exactly what you'd want from such an unusual and unique band and the assumed lack of funding for publicity etc. still baffles me. If you look around my page you'll find a song by the band Beyond became, Gorilla. Good song and not a tie-dye shirt in sight :)

  • "Crawl" is just too good. "Sacred Garden" is brill. "One Step Too Far" is already on here, so do you have the aforementioned available for download on here, please? Ta.

  • planning another sometime soon as well as a gorilla track or two.

  • ahead of its time!

  • Happy days, takes me right back to an awesome underground scene that included luminaries such as Xentrix, Acid Reign, Slammer,Lawnmower Deth, Bomb Disneyland (later Bomb Everything).

    Happy, happy days!

  • If you go to filestube and type in the band and album they've got links to a guy who's posted them both online in his blog.

Best band in the world! :-)

  • Someone please rip their albums and releases (lossless preferably) and get them online.

It's criminal that this isn't available on the net.

I would do it myself, but my CDs/vinyl are half way around the world at the moment.

  • Oh. My. God. I haven't seen that in years; in fact I've lost all the Beyond stuff I did back then and can't remember how many strips I did. Got any more? -j

  • I have both The Beyond cds, and I find Chasm much better than Crawl.
