1. Have you ever heard of Voytek a legend in his time D7
He was a big brown European bear G
Found by Polish soldiers when he was just a cub D7 G
He would follow the Polish soldiers everywhere. D7

Came Voytek the soldier bear

2. They raised him as their mascot but it soon came quite clear
Voytek he would become more than a pet
He weighed in at 35 stones and stood at 6 feet tall
As big and strong a soldier as you get

3. He carried ammunition to the soldiers in the war
In the battle noise Voytek showed no fear
And when the day was over and they had a bit of peace
He liked nothing more than a smoke and a nice cold beer.

4. At Monte Cassino he left many comrades there
In a battle where the D-Day Dodgers fought
He used his strength and power to keep the men supplied
And all the time he worked risked being shot

5. When the war was over to Scotland Voytek came
With a big brown Bear whatever could you do
A celebrity far better known than film stars of the time
He lived his life in Edinburgh Zoo

6. In London and in Ottawa monuments exist
But so far none in Scotland can be seen
But a question asked in parliament about this hero brave
May yet show that The Soldier Bear has been

Poland...when the British would not let Polish Vets march in their end of war ticker parade, the good people of Scotland (Edinburg) had a ticker tape parade and the polish vets that fought at Monte Cassino marched with Voytek.....Thats All I Need to Know......you Highlanders are an honorable, good people, anything you need from us Pollacks, you got it.....thanks for a great song
