  • I'd rather have a 1956 DeSoto, or, of course, a '56 Chrysler 300. I miss DeSotos.

  • My best friend had one in high school a 1956 looked a lot like the first one shown...anyway don't laugh at these cars. These cars were very strong & heavy.

They were just beautiful and I remember it rode down the highway like a mercedes benz. America used to make the best cars !!

  • That was absolutely true. The evolutionary process that had occur through that period was such, going from being "Finned and Flamboyant" between 1955-1960, to "Finless and Fancyless" in 1961 and 1962(except 1961 Chryslers and Imperials still had fins, but alot less chrome though), then finally "Plain and Boxy" from 1963-onward, through the 60's and 70's. My favorite is from the "Forward Look" of 1955-1960, with all of that "Glitter" and "Jet-Age Gingerbread".

  • This is true. My neighbor's blasted dog

barked at anything. That is not good, because I am not normal. I recorded

a round robin of the Lawrence Welk theme song and pointed two large

KLH speakers to the "fence" and gave 'em

approx. 100 Db's of this insanity until

they called the police. One of the cops

who heard it in progress laughed and

asked me if he could "steal my act". No citations were issued.

  • Where is Lawrence Welk now, you ask?

He's still dead - that's where he is now.

Note that the 1957 Plymouths were so new, they were "1960 new!" 1960 was still several years in the future when that slogan was used. In magazine ads, they claimed "Suddenly, it's 1960!"

  • where is lawrence welk now?

  • was lawrence ever young? He looked old even way back here too. At 1.24 he looks steamed

  • That's a 1957 Dodge, not a 1956. My Mother used to have one. Nice car. It's a shame Dodge products got so ugly in 63 & 64. They were great in the 50s though.

  • 1956

  • Gotta love the "Forward Look." Seven years before they came out with the "Penta-Star" logo.
