In 2000, Jaws was remixed from it's original mono soundtrack into 5.1. The result is an insult to the craftsman who won an Oscar in 1975 for Best Sound.

  • The mono track wastes that crappy redone shit!!! I fucking hate the new stuff.

  • The only good thing with the new audio is that the music sounds great.

  • When the Orca is tipping over...in the new 5.1 version...it sounds something like a toilet flushing to me. What I don't get is why Jaws was ever remixed in the first place. It should have been left as it was in its original mono audio.

  • @Paul07791 Yeah they're not bad looking. Thing is if you adjust a nonanamorphic film on a widescreen tv the subtitles are cut off. However you can switch to closed caption which wont be cut off. And yeah someone said to Spielberg that they liked how the last Jaws DVD had the original mono and Spielberg said he understood that. He said that he told Universal when they put ET on DVD the first time that they had to have both the original and enhanced versions and sell it for the price of one DVD.

  • @crissrudd4554 Yeah, I bought thoses dvd's. They look okay on a CRT widescreen TV with the picture adjusted to compensate. I was one of those angered fans. Good new about Spielberg Blu Rays (or it will be when I get a player and a flatscreen)

  • @Paul07791 Yeah its a shame. I was just reading and Lucas says the original Star Wars was like 25-30% what he wanted and were never finished. He prefers people stick with his 'finished' version. The originals were released on DVD a few years ago but were nonanamorphic transfers which angered fans. Spielberg recently showed a print of Raiders and says its the original and that Raiders, ET, and Jaws will be on Blu-Ray without any alterations. He says no more alterations will be made to his films.

  • @crissrudd4554 Hey, that's pretty good too. Well, hope his attitude can persuade stubborn ol' George to think the same way about Star Wars. Tough though because the post-1997 stuff is the official cannon.

  • @Paul07791 Spielberg also admitted he regrets atering ET. He said whenever people ask which version to watch he says stick with the 1982 version.

  • @FCWPM Oh, that's cool. Like I said, Spielberg rules.

  • @Paul07791 Spielberg does tell people to stick with the original 2.0 mono.

  • The annoying thing is that Jaws had been changed to stereo sound before. I swear it said HI FI stereo on the VHS tape; so why do we either have to have crappy 5.1 (and it is truly awful) or original mono?????!!!!! ...regarding altering the sound, someone should hang for this... this is like George Lucas syndrome. Speilberg lost the plot when he tampered with ET.

  • @wilverbal The 30th anniversary DVD has both the 5.1 remix and the original mono. It also has a 5.1 mix for DTS systems as well as Spanish and French tracks.
