http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/classic/index.html Emmy Award-winning actress Laura Linney will be the new host of MASTERPIECE CLASSIC on PBS, making her first appearance on January 4, 2009 when the series premieres with a new adaptation of Thomas Hardy's "Tess of the D'Urbervilles", followed by Emily Brontë's haunting Wuthering Heights (January 18 and 25). In February, MASTERPIECE CLASSIC launches "The Incomplete Charles Dickens" with a bold new adaptation of "Oliver Twist", starring Timothy Spall (A Room with A View) and Sophie Okonedo (The Secret Life of Bees). March will bring a repeat of the acclaimed "David Copperfield" (starring Daniel Radcliffe in the role that led him to Harry Potter) and the highly anticipated March 29 premiere of the five-part miniseries "Little Dorrit" from Bleak House screenwriter Andrew Davies, starring Matthew Macfadyen (Pride and Prejudice with Keira Knightley), rising star Claire Foy as Amy Dorrit, and Tom Courtenay (Billy Liar) as her father. On May 3, "The Incomplete Charles Dickens" closes with a star-studded "The Old Curiosity Shop", with Derek Jacobi, Toby Jones (W., Infamous), Zoë Wanamaker (Harry Potter), and Gina McKee (The Forsyte Saga).
PBS is the Public Broadcasting Station, which is run primarially on public donations and is well known for running the more conservative programming here in the states. Often concerts, period dramas, how-to-do-it-yourself shows, and educational children's television like Sesame Street are their normal schedule. As for their use of British television, beyond BBC America, which you can only get if you have cable/satellite, this is the only way to get it via an oldfashioned antenna.

Wow! I am really surprised that you didn't like it. I thought it was absolutely superb and Tom Hardy was wonderfully surprising as Heathcliff and Charlotte Riley captured the mischievousness of Cathy perfectly. The ending kind of threw me off as it was completely different from the book, but other than that they stayed faithful to the book, not just with the plot but the dialogue. Perhaps you should try watching it again and see if you still don't like it. I bet it will improve your opinion.

I absolutely LOVED Wuthering Heights! I was happily suprised that not long after reading the novel for the first time, PBS was showing it! And I loved it! PBS portrayed it SO WELL! I wish I could see it again!

Laura Linney! Great choice... far better than Gillian Anderson. Not to be mean, but Anderson came across as dumb as a post! Ms. Linney has the sophistication Masterpiece deserves!
