@mancinisme It does lose of its value, but same goes with subtitles (after all, they are but a translated summary of the original dialogue). I guess it's better to watch the film in its original version, but if you don't know the language perfectly you won't be able to fully appreciate it. And unfortunately, that's not the case for a large majority of people.

@TheGalacticEmperor It is easier indeed! In my opinion it just loses a lot of its value;) But maybe it's because the average Belgian (or Flemish person) has a better knowledge of foreign languages.. However, all tastes are catered for!

@mancinisme They also do it in Germany, Italy, Russia (where dubbing sucks as you mentioned^^), Spanish-speaking countries... and basically all the countries with a rather large population. Americans do it do with Japanese movies f.i.

It has nothing to do with chauvinism, it's just easier to follow a film in your own language than to read subtitles (which also are an adaptation of the original dialogues).

@TheGalacticEmperor I've seen it before, most of the time by the French. They even translate movie titles: "The Horse Whisperer" becomes "L’Homme qui murmurait a l’oreille des chevaux"! I live in a non-English speaking country myself and we only dub films that are made for children. I just think it ruins a film so I prefer subtitles;) But I must admit the Russians are the worst dubbers: they don't even remove the English audio and the Russian voiceover is one voice only!
