to take it back a little earlier there's, of course, Grand Master Flash & the Furious Five; Blondie (Rapture ft Fab Five Freddy, 1981); Sugar Hill Gang (Rapper's Delight -1979); The Last Poets (formed in late1960s) Their music& Spoken Word pieces are/were very politicized. "The Revolution Will Not be Televised" is one of their more recognized poems. Often considered the "inspiration" of hiphop music.
