Pine Island Celebrates the 4th of July Pine Island's Annual 4th of July Parade. Organizations, Clubs, Island Businesses and Residents are invites to participate in the celebration of our country's birthday. The Parade starts at the Winn Dixie parking lot and travels north on Stringfellow Road to the Elks Lodge. The Elks make sure all the kids in the parade get a free hot dog and drink other may purchase them for a very low price. After the parade they all go to the American Legions for the awards ceremony, and more food. The American Legions cooked a BBQ dinner, which could be purchased, for a very low price and when it got dark the American Legions had a beautiful display of fireworks. Happy Birthday America - God Bless You All
I remember these as a teenage there in the early 1970s before I left for the Navy. Marty Slater was our Volunteer Fire Chief as well as a role model and mentor to many of us young men. I always looked forward to the parade and fire works in Matlacha. Good memories.
