"Stood their ground in a male dominated world" that's absurd, it sort of suggests they got shit for being women, it was EASIER for women to make it at that time, image being so important. It's easier for some girls to attract some visual attention then men. There just aren't as many interesting female musicians as men. Whether cultural or biological, it's the truth. There is no conspiracy against women, nor is it harder for them. There is no need for them to "stand their ground" only musically.
