Goddamn Baby Leashes

I almost killed a little girl with my car about a year ago when I arrived at the intersection at about 25MPH and saw the little girl pull her hand from her mom's hand and ran off into the street. Her mom yelled in despair and if I was not paying attention if would have been a terrible tragedy. If that little girl was on a leash I doubt that would happen.

Child leashes around here are like backpacks. They are here for the safety of the children! Young kids are not very predictable and love to explore.. when you are in a high traffic area or a busy place like a mall or airport it also prevents kidnapping, lost child, or even the possibility of getting seriously hurt. If it was treating kids like a pet, the leash would be around the neck (with a cute little name tag and when their last rabies shot was :) )

i lost my son for 5mins in the mall while carrying my big baby bag and a grocery then as i was going to get my car keys my son ran away from me and went directly to where the crowd was! then i lost sight of him, it took me 5 mins to finally find him, but it feels like an hour of horror!what if he was picked up by a psycho! I ordered 3 leashes on ebay! i have one in our cars! id rather be called a terrible mother by putting him on a leash rather than be sorry for loosing my son!

That would be like if I said don't use a play pin because it's like putting you child in a kennel like a dog .

You obviously know nothing about children , all it takes is a second of being distracted for them to get away . Try carrying a shit ton of groceries and controlling a toddler it's not easy and leaves your child vulnerable to get hurt . There is nothing wrong with the "leash" and it helps to maintain safe distance between you and your child preventing them from running out in front of a car and if they were to you could jerk it back causing only mild injury in lou of death.

You are a smart young man! No child should be on a leash!

As someone who was harnessed as a toddler, and who years later, had to harness my toddler younger daughter, all I can say, is it depends on the kid. Some will stick with the parent/caregiver, some will bolt off, and not stop/come back when called. That's when the harness/leash is to be used. It gives the kid more freedom than the stroller, yet establishes the adults control. The leash can be removed as the child learns to stay close.

@ribbitribbitfrog *being willing...
Both my sibling and I were on "HARNESSES" when it was appropriate. We were not being abused, we were being protected. Good parents protect their children! No so called psychological scaring!
Harnesses used to keep children from running away in a public place,and possibly getting hurt, is O.K. by me. As an adult I go anywhere I want,I was encouraged to do so as a child under safe conditions.
So tell me where is the abuse?

fair enough. i understand that we have disagreeing views on this subject. i just feel that there are ways to "protect" a child that doesn't envolve putting them on a leash like a dog, you can carry your child, or hold their hand,or use a pram, all of these things keep your child safe. but i respect your opinion that it is an alternative t o these methods.
