Sorry about the crap music. Apparently you can't put tracks that you own on to YouTub video's. Guess there's no point in buying music any more.

Goliath update -
He's doing well and the half-tap is helping him think through the scary stuff. He's doing better with the big blue ball, garbage cans, and frightening new fence post I just put in.
----------------------------------------

This is a 16 yr old TWH. He's had a pretty rough past and is scared of pretty much everything. Whips, flapping reins, lounge lines, to name a few.

I had to work with him a full year in order to free lounge him in a round pen. When I first would let him go he'd run himself into a lather and practically fall down with exhaustion. All that and I either stood or sat in the center of the pen not pressuring him at all. Makes me wonder what previous owners did to him.

I've owned him for 5 yrs and worked with him on traditional "horsemanship" tecniques for 4 years and made a lot of progress but that initial flight reaction is always there.

My other horse is virtually bomb proof and loves a big blue exercise ball. To give you and idea of how freaked out Goliath is of this ball just blowing it up in the tack room made him sweat and panic in his stall across the aisle from me. So scared he actually tried to climb the wall.

After 4 of these "Taps" I was able to not only bring the ball to Goliath and have him sniff it but actually bounce it next to him. The whole time he had a nice low head, no snorting, no white eye, just some licking and chewing which is fantastic!

In just 1/2 hr of using "The Tap" I got further than 4 years of traditional "horsemanship" methods.

  • Are there any secrets? or is it just what is shown? You pull around his head and he goes right down??

    amazing job <3

  • @cowgal58 check out Endospink for information about the TAP.

  • poor horsemouth? :'S

  • @Louisehellstrom You do not have to have a bit in their mouth, you can do it with a halter too.

  • what if the horse starts rearing up and striking out?

  • @TheBrainLick stay with them, keep their head turned.

  • @MsHobbyfarmer Nope, I didn't have the camera out unfortunately. Only got this take.

  • @MaxandFroggy Your horse should not run in circles when only one rein is pulled. If they do hold contact on that rein and release pressure when they stop and flex. It's called a 1 rein stop or see videos by Clint Anderson on flexing.

  • Where is the other rein? if you are just pulling the one rein woulden't the horse just go in circles? nice horse though:)

  • @lklik6 oh, it's nice to know that it can be performed without a bit. That has been my only real objection to this technique, was that it looked like it put quite a bit of pressure on the bars of the horse's mouth. I've only ever seen it done with a bit, but now that I know it can be done without, I'm much more open to it ^-^

  • @TheBrainLick just call endo LOL

  • Is there a link to the 1st,2nd.and 3rd "dramatic" tap?
