So Tom Jackman wasn't a descendant of Dr. Jekyll because he died a virgin...while Hyde screwed half of London and left dozens of bastard offsprings, which can account for a lot of the schizos and siamese twins since. Jackman is an offshoot, one in a million perfect genetic duplicate of Henry Jekyll. And the company wanted Hyde, so they cloned the only woman Jekyll ever loved, and that woman was a servant girl, which brought out the best in the first place. Claire is that clone.
