Fire completely destroyed St. Joseph's Church in Olean NY, Saturday afternoon, August 27th, only one hour before mass. The priest an others were inside preparing for the mass celebration when the fire started. Flames quickly engulfed the entire main section of the church, igniting the roof which fell, completely blowing-out the entire north portion of the building. Flames spread so rapidly that the quick-response Olean Fire Department found the structure completely engulfed in flames as they arrived from their station only a few blocks away. Stunned parishioners who would have been inside an hour later, watched with sadness as their beloved church was destroyed before their eyes.
