Technical note: When I say "key of A" what I really mean is A mixolydian. The verses in this tune are modal! (Yes they are. If it was really in A major, you'd have a G#, whereas in fact it's flattened to G.) If you want the reference key signature of A mixolydian, it's D, which you'll notice also happens to be the tonal center of the chorus.
I mentioned that G is an easier guitar key for this tune, if you're playing open. Well, G mixolydian is actually C, right? That's why.

Guys, the bass riff is just on intervals 1 2 4 6-5-4. Fret it in any position you like! He happens to be playing it in A (see note below), which is a real workout for the left hand if you're on barre. But G works very well too, à la Ben Harper. In G, that bass walk is around the open C chord, dead easy. Margin Gaye does it in Bb, and I heard a great cover in B where the C#m hammers really nicely. Tons of room to play with it, m'seh.

Dude, that is the BEST acoustic version I've heard of this song - really really good! The Ben Harper version is easier to play of course ;) - I've worked out the main chords from your vid, but dont suppose you'd like to share the 7th fret finger picking tab you use to mimic the bass notes? Please?
