Virginia & Truckee no. 25 (4-6-0) is a locomotive operational at Nevada State Railroad Museum, Carson City, Nevada. The train will run public excursions on special occasions.
#8 was built by Cooke Locomotive Works in 1888. V&T 25 was built by Baldwin in 1905. They really aren't that similar. The only reason the 8's tender is coupled to the 25 is because her tender is being repaired. It should be finished within the next year.
I presume that both NV State Railroad Museum #8 and #25 are of similar weight and boiler capacity? Several locomotive builders used common boilers for 2-8-0's and 4-6-0's of identical frame length.

Well there is concern for bulging on the crownsheet. Time will tell.

I also take it #8 is out of service for a re-tubing or something.

You are correct. 25's tender has a leak and they are using 8's

I take it that #25 was using #8's tender... #25's original tender is lettered for the V&T, not the NSRM...
