I recently bought an RT-2022 just like the one in this video. It plays and records great, but when I play pre-recorded material it plays it backward or one channel would seems to be right and the other backwards.

Hi,I acquired the head unit,I tried the transport functions,do not work without bottom amp unit?Capstan transport spins at low or high speeds.

the bottom unis is only REC en play back amp. It has nothing to do with transport. I think your circut board for transport is broken.
see Puwer supply also, it is usually in bad shape.. replace all caps.
