  • @MemeNatorius Actually in an interview not too long before Chet passed, he was asked if there was anyone he'd pay to see play. And he said he would pay to see Doyle. Chet, Doyle, Tommy,Knopfler...can't go wrong with any of them!!!!

  • @carvetop01 Yeah Zappa was a monster though considered himself average. He played many of his most memorable solos on an SG thru a Pignose! He's like Rundgren in the sense that the complexity of their musical arrangements and orchestration ( and a stage full of various musical genius) took away from their guitar prowess. I've seen Todd solo, a 4 piece small rock venue, and full blown Utopia orchestra and the guy never ceases to amaze me. Only saw Zappa once, with T. Bozio Vai Underwood etc WOW!

  • @4to88strings

Frank Zappa was another Ninja on guitar. I saw Steve once live in a small venue and like you I was amazed. Martin Taylor I have seen 5 times. He is not of this world. Frank Vignola, Bucky and John Pizzarelli, Jimmy Bruno, Howard Alden. We could both continue naming greats. In the end, there are so many great players playing great music. Life is good!

Upload some tunes. Check out some of my uploads. I try and play a variety of styles.

  • @carvetop01 Wow! You mentioned a few I forgot, Wes Montgomry and Barney Kessel. So I'll throw back at you How about Joe Pass and Herb Ellis? Duo on 7 Come 11 smokes.

Steve Morse? I saw him with The Dreggs years ago and he totally blew me away Todd Rundgren is another underated rock guitarist. I've toured and recorded (bass) with some pretty amazing guitarists, and none of them had the same style. I'm a huge David Gilmour fan. His sound/tone is so amazing. I'm a decent picker myself :>)

  • @4to88strings

You made my point far better than I did. Segovia, Wes, Johnny Smith, Kessel......... They are all the "best"

  • @4to88strings Oh, one more thing. So much for which guitar is the best. I play a Martin my brother plays a Taylor. Big deal. Doyle plays Taylor Tommy plays Martin BUT these guys could play a 5 dollar, 5 string, hump belly, warpneck pawnshop special and still make it sound great!!! YEAH!!!

  • @carvetop01 Okay I'll solve it. Theyre both the best! But what about Chet Les Paul Albert Lee Vince Gill

Steve Wariner Ricky Skaggs and so on. And that's just this style. How about rockers Clapton Beck Hendrix Van Halen Steve Vai Steve Howe. But wait, how about jazzmen Bill Conners John Schofield Al Dimeola John Maclaughlin etc. So many styles so many techniques so many sounds. Sad thing is most of the people who want to "compare" can't even hold a pick much less change a string.

  • @ktm066

Why are you making this into a contest? Can't you just enjoy the performance?

  • @mrkkitson Hey, I thought, that Chet said that Tommy is the best, and Chet is the biggest Tommy fan :D

  • @veepee78 Agreed, I LOVE Tommy and Doyle, but Mr. Knopfler is absolutely the BEST...(Chet Atkins can't be wrong...)
