@ethanhines I a soooooooooo with you when you say heart insufficiency sounds better than heart failure. Heart failure is such a horrible term, so pessimistic. I suffer from DCM and refuse to let any of my medical care team used the term heart failure. I'll use your description instead, thanks!!! :)
@ethanhines well enlarged hearts can be reversed in size, but depends on the damage and how long it has been like that, most people dont realize that they have an enlarged heart until its too late! my heart is bigger than a normal size heart but it isnt dilated. and there are no signs of heart failure. i am a jogger and my heart pulse is only 49. i feel great though, i hope my heart goes back to normal size, i havent drunk soda in like 2 years
@ethanhines This is because the muscle cells are not arranged right(the congenital defect) rather than being paralell they are arranged in a disarray. The random stacking of the muscle cells is the main reason why it gets enlarged So hypertrophy of the muscle makes the septum get larger, causing a decrease in size of the ventricle.
@joeynap860 I guess my point was why in the case of DCM does the heart instead become progressively larger resulting in heart insufficiency (that sounds better then Heart Failure)
@ethanhines the heart's septum becomes enlarged the same way as your arms would from excess stress(working out). Making the inner walls thick and less flexible(weaker). this causes a fluctuation in the pressure gradient needed to keep the hearts valves and contractions in working order. There is pooling of blood in the pulmonary system(causing breathing problems) mitral regurgatation-->blood gets pumped the wrongway, and blockage of blood leaving heart, which will cause death.
so let me get this straight once the heart gets dialated it never goes back and just keeps getting larger....seems kinda strange for a muscle. I mean if my calf is weak if I stretch it it gets better not progesivily worse,
