Texas Woman Walks Into Plane Propeller

A Dallas-area woman has lost her hand after walking into the propeller of a small airplane following a flight to view Christmas lights. (Dec. 6)

Someone asked why the prop was running. Air craft engines are not like automobile engines. Many of them cannot be just shutdown like turning a key. Many have to be spooled down, in order to prevent damage to the engine. Because if how they are made, and what they do (reliably fly people in the sky) aircraft engines are made complately different than auto engines.

FAA has a preliminary finding of no fault in the case of the pilot. A person has personal responsibility, including trying to be aware of what is around you, and listening to people who know what is going on. The current report states that the pilot saw her exiting the plane to the front, and he directed her to the rear. He turned to assist another passenger, and she continued walking forward. She then walked into the prop.

She's a friend of a woman I know who works in the same office building. It was very loud and dark that night at the airport. She was going back to thank the pilot and didn't see the prop. She's a devoted mom and sweet lady. Let's be nice.
