This is a BIG match! Perhaps the most important of the bashou so far.

Undefeated yokozuna Asashoryu takes on struggling ozeki Harumafuji.

Asa has a 14-2 record against fellow Mongolian Harumafuji, but you can never count Harumafuji out, since he ability to beat larger opponents is one of main reasons the fans really enjoy his sumo.

Enjoy!

  • Man, Asa seems really pissed.. hehehe.. that Harumafuji looks like some Ama older brother. They have lookalike faces (or so it seems to me).

  • Harumafuji is Ama - he just got a new name when he became an ozeki. :)

  • how come they r turning their cushions? any meaning?

  • yeah - it's just an unspoken ritual whenever a yokozuna loses. One tournament venue has started using new cushions that are tied together to avoid them getting thrown.

  • Yeah, if it were a henka he wouldn't have gone for a belt grab...I don't think the slap to the left helped for Asa either.

I think Harumafuji might get an award for technique this basho, what with the one footed pivot earlier in the tournament and now this. Think that is possible or likely?

  • unfortunately at the ozeki rank, you can't get the special prizes - i guess they feel you're already special if you're an ozeki.

  • lol thanks for the info =)

  • Would've pissed me off if it was a hanka because I do not think that is a way to win. I don't think it was because Harumafuji went for a belt grip and did not just move to the side. Unexpected win, but good job.

  • man! well i like both but i was kind of hoping harumafuji would win but that was unexpected! now asashoryu isnt even undefeated anymore.

  • Did not see that coming! Too bad asa lost. I like that dude, i dont mind him being cocky.

  • Believe that its just tradition for when a yokozuna loses.
