In a day and age when negative news stories about bullying, fighting and crime pervade our perception of high school students, along comes a positive uplifting story to help create a little balance. 19 year old Rachel Cooperstein is a senior at Dublin High School in in Dublin, California. The very friendly young woman is a member of the varsity cheer squad and is known for wanting to help her fellow students. Rachel was also born with Down syndrome, but that has not held her back. On October 15, 2010, during halftime at Dublin High's Homecoming game, Rachel was crowned as the school's Homecoming Queen. The students wanted to make a social statement about inclusion, but they also simply voted for a young woman who is extremely popular despite her challenges.
