Shooting groups at 200 and 300 yards with a .223 Bushmaster Varminter AR15. Target cam also setup for picture-in-picture (PIP) effect. This cartridge has the potential to be VERY accurate for a factory round....I just needed a better benchrest for these shots, in particular at 300 yards. Nonetheless, you'll get an idea as to potential accuracy. Also popped some water jugs at end of the video; slow-motion included. What more can you ask for....AR15, long distance shooting, steel targets, water jugs, HD, picture in picture, slow-motion, etc.

Viewable in 1920 x 1080 HD if you have the bandwidth. With the HD, you can clearly see the bullet trail on the 300 yard shots.

This was a technically difficult video to put together, considering the use of two cameras at times (my first attempt at this), and the editing. The shot sequences are as well-merged as I can get down to 1/100th of a second. Obviously, at greater distances, there is a delay on the target confirmation, and rifle report from the target camera.

SAFETY NOTE: Not that I'm required to mention it, but based on comments from other videos, some people fail to grasp the concept of private property. This is a modest tract of land in the family. Targets were on a hillside. Downrange and surrounding, there are thousands of acres of uninhabited property belonging to other landowners. I extensively check the property before and during all shooting sessions. Shooting lanes were setup after evaluating topographic and satellite maps of this tract and those surrounding, not to mention property lines. Also, you can see from this video that the shooting lanes have a minimal impact on the environmental surroundings.

  • What is that piece on the bottom of your grip? At first I was thinking about getting a mono-pod for the stock, but I guess I don't have to.

  • @MichaelkSimmons

Just a plactic base, about 1 inch thick, and pivots up and down for elevation adjustments. When shooting long range, I typically rest the base on a sandbag.

  • JUNE 2011 - I'm planning another video with the VMAX, probably the same distances but on water jugs. I'll use a remote camera and possibly some reverse POV and slow-motion.

  • @konnen2 Well to me at the 2:04 mark you will notice he is shooting down hill. Now supposing it was flat those poppers are 4 feet tall with a 300 zero that bullet would hit the ground at 550 yards from the shooter. I am sure with this shooter's knowledge he is not so irresponsible as to shoot without some thought given to where that bullet will go in the event of a miss.

    P.S. A 22lr can kill a man; ie a 55 grain 223 round is capable of killing a man at 1000 yards (911 fps & 101 ft/lb)

  • @konnen2

You don't see the hillside on private property backed up by thousands of uninhabited acres? Were you there? Uh, no you were not. Congratulations, you are this week's first SAFETY SALLIE!

There is ALWAYS more to my shooting setups than what you see on camera. I film 99.9% of my videos without assistance, so the camera angles and depth of field don't necessarily focus on the backstop. The focus is on the FIREARM or TARGET, which is what viewers want to see.

  • Does it cost just as much in Academy as the Z-max?

  • Would you think this would be good for small to medium sized hogs?

  • u make good ammo vids

  • theres always a rent a cop wanna be, on each vid,

good shooting mate great review keep it up

  • @MrJohnDevour well this gun is not much up from a 22mag it starts drops like he said at 300yrds so i dont think he can get more then 500 maybe 600yrds could be rong thought but also in the army dont they shoot c7 cause a c7 can do 800meters easy also i thought they usaully used a small scope on there rifles could be rong though

  • how much does the gun cost

  • Very nice video but wouldn't you be able to go A LOT further with that setup?

In Finnish army we shot similar size bullseye paper targets at typically 300 meters (328 yd.) with just ironsights and no bipod (model RK-62 by Valmet), maybe not quite as good grouping as yours but if I had your setup I would be trying to shoot pennies on the moon with it! :)

  • @WUZIGULUHU Yes well sort of, Hornady makes a V-max and their new zombie slayer Z-max which is same exact thing different color tip in 7.62x39 that is supposed to reliably expand and fragment. I would like to see some testing with real meat. I saw a video where a guy tested double tap 10mm on meat and it was impressive. I think it was tnoutdoors9.

  • Great job on the video, luv the split screen, editing, commentary. Very informative, keep up the good work!
