The operation called percutaneous closure of the patent foramen ovale (PFO) was the first in Philippine medical history and was done in Makati Medical Center. The process involved inserting a device as big as a five-peso coin into the body of the patient to patch up a hole in the heart.
TV Host Kuya Kim Atienza was the first person in the Philippines to underwent closer of PFO percutaneously.
