@rabbiteh As long as you get the small sardines, eating the bones is fine. If you're buying them out of the can, you just have to buy them and figure out what size sardines the brand uses. Deep Cove (which I get at Big Lots) are perfect. The bones aren't very crunchy and the sardines are tasty. But most cheap brands of sardines are very big and you should de-bone the spine.

@LasVegasWooo they dont eat them whole, they take the stomach out. In Spain, they deep fry them and serve them with an aioli.....kind of the Spanish answer to french fries and mayo/ketchup. Out of the fryer, a little course salt over the top and dip them in the aioli. Heaven, just heaven. And they are so good for you too.

I do eat the bones, if the sardines are very large I would discard the bones.
