This was shot on September 28, 2008 as the Mets would play their final game ever at Shea Stadium against the Florida Marlins. here we see the NYC
Subway's "Train of Many Colors" out for baseball special service between
Times Square and Willets Point-Shea Stadium for the final run of the day. This was a great spot to shoot since trains on the express track will go upgrade past 103 Street almost roller coaster-like. You hear
my good friend shouting "wow" as he admires one of his photos. The consist is as follows: R33 World's Fair #9306 (1963), R12 #5760 (1948), R15 #6239 (1950), R17 #6609 (1955), R33 Mainliners 9016-9017 (1960's red livery) and R33 mainliners 9010-9011 (1970's silver with the blue stripe).

  • I'm surprised they don't have one of the dark green cars as part of the consist. I remember them during the 1980s. I can't remember which lines they ran, but the dark green cars looked pretty cool.

  • @Flatbedkw That very day it wasn't part of the consist - they replaced the Kale Green car with the 1970's silver & blue transit livery cars (9010-9011).

  • Graffiti is vandalism of public property and is rightfully illegal. Maybe it's cool to a few people, but to most of us, it is ugly and depressing! When Leonid Breshnev visited New York in the early 1980's, he wondered how the US could consider itself superior to the USSR when their subway looked ugly, while the Moscow subway was elegant with chandeliers and everything you could think of. I can understand the sentiment, but the less graffiti we have, the better!

  • thats a good point but to some ppl these subways mean more than just going from point A to point B.

  • @solidsnakeBYTE88 the red is in this consist

  • BAD ASS!

  • Ive seen another pair #9206-9207 which is also in MTA silver and blue. Personally that pair should be painted in white livery circa 1982 scheme.

  • Why haven't they put the train of many colors back in Fan trip Service ?

  • the 2nd subway train is on gta iv

  • this is great i remember ridin the redbirds as a kid the 2,4,5,6 and 7 lines i cant believe they r retired man does time go by quik

  • @azar7834 - I miss the Redbirds too and wish they were still running. They were solid and built very durable. However, the newer trains are lighter, more efficient and even with the electronic gadgetry they consume less electrical power which adds up a lot in cost savings to taxpayers. But it makes me feel good that compared to the R62s (the train coming in the opposite direction) the new IRT trains have a body style that is so very similar to the Redbirds. Sort-of a tribute to them.

  • Cars. Typo, sorry.
