Early eighties hare and hound racing footage of mostly Dan Smith and Dan Ashcraft. Smith and Ashcraft are shown with #2 and #5x at first but had both #1 plates by the next year. Dan Smith stayed on top from that point on known as "King of the Desert" until he retired in the late 80's with 5 national Hare and Hound titles.

We gave the Huskys a good run in the early 80's. Pettigrew on his Can AM 500 always right up there at the front absolutely fantastic balls out racing. No brakes, shocks that faded in about two miles, tank slappers and the occasional bush or rock that somehow didn't match the rhythm. I actually beat Ashcraft in the 70's for the OA in the Desert MC Hare & Hound novice class. He got faster, I got older.

Awesome I have this VHS, the original sound track sounded like a lousy High School garage band - lol. (with intermittent 2-stroke racing etc. sound tracks) This is one you'll never see on cd. Thanks for posting and God Bless the Open Class!

i did this in the 80's had a WR500 ..my girl friend would pit for me..give me new goggles...shove a bannana in my face.. give me water..hand the gas bottle to me..man i miss her....

Those were the days!! I had a Husky 390OR with the Black & Gold Tank scheme. Watching this video and looking at their gear (dirty old worn leather gloves) , there was no glamour BS there... I wish I was back riding my 390 or my Husky 500 XC. Very fond memories of Jawbone Canyon, Red Mountain, Shadow Mountains, North Shore Salton Sea Chocalte Mtns and District 37 Events. Kids today have no clue what is was like riding a twin shock ball bearing Jack-Ass !!
